Possible Investigations
Refer to maintaining homeostasis for the see how change in temperature impacts homeostasis
One possible investigation that can be conducted is to check of temperature impacts homeostasis.
PROCEDURE:
PROCEDURE:
PROCEDURE:
- Get into groups of 2-4 and record each members body temperature with a thermometer,as well as mark their heart rates with a stethoscope and make sure it's recorded for the same time for everyone.
- Submerge head in ice-cold water for about 30 seconds.Immediately measure the body temperature and the heart rate.
- Submerge head in very warm water for about 30 seconds.Immediately measure the body temperature and the heart rate.
- Discuss the results and explain that when subjected to colder temperatures, the human heart will slow in order to preserve oxygen levels within the body to achieve homeostasis.
PROCEDURE:
- Get into partners and get a sphygmomanometer.
- Record the heartbeat of your partner while he/she is seated.
- The student seated should get up slowly.Record the heartbeat when the student is standing.
- After 5 minutes the partner should get up rapidly.Record results immediately.
- Examine how different activities impact one's heartbeat.
